You can use a generic video switch to feed multiple sources to one input if you like though. We have so far never seen a car with all three inputs in use from factory. A factory installed VES-system (Back seat entertainment system) will steal one more input. A factory installed reverse camera will steal one input. One or more of these may be in use depending on the configuration of your vehicle though. The 8.4" and 6.5" uconnect systems have three video inputs between which you can switch freely. This product is only compatible with the 8.4" or 6.5"-screen versions of uconnect. There just might be future features that customtronix provides that would really piss off FCA so no reason to call attention. The Customtronix Jailbreak Silver kit will give you the option to install a front camera which is integrated into the uconnect system's menus. The less FCA notices the better so they dont 'fix the exploit' that customtronix uses at some future time and then we have to decide to get new official features or keep the ones we have from customronix. But (so far ONLY) Customtronix figured out a way 'around' the encryption. The 8.4's are encrypted already- it's very much similar to a blackberry playbook tablet and if not encrytped i'm sure there would be tons of 3rd party fun. This lasted a few years then Chrysler got wind and started to encrypt the DVD's some how to break that. So you could buy the updated DVD- copy it to your computer- use a hex editor to flip a handful of bits- and burn a fresh copy to use in the car. Someone figured out which bits to flip to get rid of the motion lock out. My previous FCA (nee Chysler) vehicle with NAV was DVD based. More importantly- i don't want them to let FCA know how large of a customer base Customtronix has. If i need a 'real' repair then i intent to roll back so they have no reason to note that i have unofficial software and then try to blame that in the future. Basically you install the rollback and do a full factory reset of the radio and there will be ZERO trace that you have had the RAX installed.įor oil changes and the like i just leave the software installed but uninstall all the features- don't need the dealer noticing i have a front camera hooked in for example and then questioning what software i have installed. It allows you to return your radio to the official factory branches if needed. They'll provide another download link and you create another USB stick. Yep- you (or your dealer) will get an error that the software is not properly signed or something to that effect.īest to request customtronix to provide you a copy of the "rollback" software for your vehicle. Overall, a good product, a hands-off installation and at a better price point that the Lockpick solution. I had no need so didn't buy that version. They also offer a cable that enables additional video/audio inputs for front cameras, TV, etc. No need to remove the trim and radio - it's all done through the USB port. I tried a different USB stick for the third try and left the engine running throughout the process and it worked fine. Nothing was lost as the radio reverted back to its pre-update stage. It aborted the first two attempts for some unknown reason. The installation wasn't totally trouble free, but worked fine the 3rd time around. I ordered the Customtronix Jailbreak Bronze for my Durango, downloaded the software update from the web and, per directions, saved it on a USB stick. Not that I think that last part is too smart! They apparently have a software-only solution to enable entering addresses in the Nav system while driving as well as watching videos while driving. I was looking for a deal on a C8 version of the Lockpick for my new-to-me 2014 Limited when I ran across a thread about Customtronix. I installed the Coastal Electronics MYGIG Lockpick in my recently-traded 2008 Durango.
