Without further ado, and with regards to Hollywood (and hoping you have a pen and paper handy.) If I managed somehow to miss some of the incredible work that our flairs and users have done today when making this listing, please feel free to add it in the comments so I can edit it in! And, of course, if you wrote one of these pieces and you don't see yourself credited yet, maybe because your alt was just too clever for us, make sure to accept the blame in the comments (if you wish) and I'll edit that in as well. It often seemed beyond Brisbane that the 21 century hadn't happened yet.Anyway, it's time for the big wrap up for April Fool's 2021, aka r/HistoriansAskTheMovies! Because we know that you don't spend all your time following our feed (only most of it.), it's possible that you may not have seen some of the incredible work that our flairs and users have done today, so we've corralled it for you right here. BTW, people in Queensland only had the nicest things to say about Sydney, but I do understand your 'deep north' comment. After all, he does have a 'British' accent of sorts. Even Bligh was only in his mid-30s at the time. Pretty hard to cast a Bounty movie on SN, we are all too old. No idea who bought it, but something like that belongs in a museum not a private collection. (There were other items that were much more expensive.) The auction estimate was something like 4000 pounds sterling and I am not in the class to spend so much on a triviality. I had to really resist the temptation to bid on the cup used to ration drinking water in the open boat. A number of years ago there was a sale of Bligh memorabilia at Sotheby's. I find Bligh the most interesting character is all this. Bligh's trip really does not lend itself too well since things were done so well. The Pitcairn story would work well too - sort of the 'if it bleeds, it leads' appeal. The mutiny story is the best one for a movie because of the conflict (and even sex). Don't know if there is another tall ship in the world that is close enough in appearance to satisfy the general viewer. The loss of the replica also complicates matters for sure. Could make a great mini-series on TV but unlikely because of the costs involved. There is too much in the Bounty stories to fit into one movie. Macarthur was the first person to import the Spanish Merino sheep into Australia thereby founding the Australian sheep industry and providing sexual relief to lonely farmers for generations to come. Of some small note, I was taught piano as a child by his great great (insert greats as required) grand daughter. The aforementioned John Macarthur (previous post) is still considered by some to be a great man, by others a completely evil bastard. Of course there are two sides to every story. At the time Rum was the unofficial currency of the fledgling colony, indeed our oldest hospital was known as the Rum Hospital as part of the building contract included allowing the developers a monopoly of Rum imports. The Bligh era includes what is known as the Rum Rebellion which was the uprising by the military against Bligh. That part of Oz history is worth the read, leading up to a bloke by the name of Lachlan Macquarie who is pretty much considered to be the Father of Australia.
